


Taka Bonerate National Park has the third biggest coral atoll in the world after the Kwajifein in Marshall Islands and Suvadiva in Moldiva Islands.
Size atoll is approximately 220,000 hectares, with scattered coral reef flat width of 500 km ².
Designated as a national park by the Minister of Forestry in 1992 with an area of approximately 530,765 hectares. Administratively, the district administration was Passi Masunggu and Passi Maranu District, Dati II Selayar District, Province of South Sulawesi province.
The best year to visit: April to June and October to December each year
How to reach the location:
From the city of Makassar to the city Bulukumba (153 km) with more or less travel time; 4 hours, then to Fort Selayar (Ferry) about 4 hours. Fort Selayar to the islands closest (motor boat) around; 7 hours.
Taka Bonerate consists of Kep. Tiger (14 islands) and Kep. Passi Tallu (7 islands), which most of these islands are atolls with white sandy configuration. At the lowest low tide will look like dry land interspersed by a puddle that formed small pools.
Taka Bonerate have scattered reef flat area of 500 km2 with a depth of terrain varied from looking at the water surface during low tide to a depth of three meters.
There are approximately 295 species of reef fish and many kinds of fish consumption is high economic value such as grouper (Epinephelus spp.), Skipjack (Katsuwonus spp.), Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), and baronang (Siganus sp.).
A total of 244 types of mollusks including lola (Trochus niloticus), goat’s head shell (Cassis cornuta), triton (Charonia tritonis), batulaga (Turbo spp.), Clam shell (Tridacna squamosa), pearl oysters (Pinctada spp.), And the hollow nautilus (Nautilus pompillius).
The types of turtles were recorded, including hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), green turtle (Chelonia mydas), and the cracked turtle (Dermochelys coriacea).
